Oridathoru Postman - Movie Review

A film projectorThe postman fails to deliver. Oridathoru postman, with Kunchako Boban in the lead role, failed to entertain the Malayalee audience. The movie was in the news for its interesting theme and for the prescence of Sarath Kumar in its cast.

Innocent and Kunchacko play father and son in the movie. The movie is overloaded with messages on lottery tickets and on terrorism. The story begins only when we are halfway through.Kunchako's recent movies - Mummy and Me, Sakudumbam Shyamala, Elsamma Enna Aankutty - were hits at the box office.

For a good portion of the movie, we are told about the life in a small village. Government job aspirants, people addicted to lottery tickets, football fans, the lazy Innocent etc. One realises, later on, that this story has nothing to do with what the movie is actually about. The director took way too long for an introduction.

When the viewer is told what the movie is about, everything happens too quickly. When a hero has a mission at hand, the viewer is curious to know not only if it is achieved, but also how. Oridathoru Postman ends hapily. The hero has accomplished the mission. The movie fails to effectively tell us how he does it.

Instead of taking the audience to a journey, the storyteller gives them glimpses of a few places and finally introduces them to the destination.
